KRA: Head of Metal Finishing / HOD – R&D & Production

1. Research & Development (R&D) in Metal Finishes

Objective: To develop innovative, durable, and export-quality metal finishes that align with global market trends and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and standardize new finishes in powder coating, electroplating, antique, TPR (Thermo-Plastic Rubber), and EPL (Electroplated Lacquer) processes.
• Conduct chemical and mechanical trials for new shades, effects, and protective coatings.
• Create finish master samples and ensure reproducibility in production.
• Collaborate with design and marketing teams to translate aesthetic trends into feasible finishes.
• Maintain a library/database of finishes with process parameters, shade codes, and formulations.
• Benchmark finishes against international quality and durability standards (e.g., corrosion resistance, adhesion, gloss level).
• Identify and qualify new raw materials, chemicals, and vendors for innovative finishes.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators):

• Number of new finishes developed and approved per quarter.
• % of finishes successfully transitioned from R&D to production.
• Cost reduction achieved through process or chemical optimization.
• R&D lead time from concept to approved sample.

2. Production & Process Management (Finishing Line Operations)

Objective: To ensure consistent quality, timely delivery, and efficient operation of the metal finishing lines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and optimize daily operations of powder coating, plating, antique, and other finishing lines.
• Ensure 100% adherence to process parameters and finishing specifications.
• Monitor bath chemistry, pre-treatment, curing, and surface quality across all lines.
• Plan and allocate manpower efficiently to meet production schedules.
• Drive continuous improvement for yield enhancement, rejection reduction, and energy efficiency.
• Maintain and update SOPs and work instructions for all finishing processes.

KPIs:

• % of batches meeting first-pass quality standards.
• Line efficiency and productivity metrics (output vs plan).
• Rework/rejection rate (%).
• Machine and line uptime %.
• Compliance with safety and environmental standards.
