About the Program

The Brilliant IoT Smart Cities Program is a global K–12 STEM education initiative that empowers middle and high school students to conceptualize, design, and prototype smart city models using real-world IoT technologies and engineering principles. Students collaborate locally and internationally, applying automation, sensor systems, and sustainable design to solve authentic urban challenges. The program promotes innovation, teamwork, and critical thinking through hands-on, project-based learning, and culminates in regional and international showcases that celebrate student achievement and global collaboration.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a mission-driven IoT and Engineering Project Manager to lead the technical planning, development, and execution of the program’s engineering and IoT components. This role is ideal for a dynamic professional who thrives at the intersection of technology and education, and who is passionate about empowering the next generation of innovators through meaningful, real-world STEM experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Kit Development & Technical Oversight

• Finalize the Smart City IoT Kit (microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, cabling, etc.)
• Coordinate with vendors for sourcing, production, and distribution
• Ensure all hardware components meet safety, functionality, and classroom use standards

Documentation & Training

• Develop student- and educator-friendly documentation, including sample code, wiring diagrams, and technical guides
• Create training materials such as reference sheets, presentations, and recorded walkthroughs
• Lead onboarding webinars and weekly technical support sessions for educators and students

Technical Support & Communication

• Manage a ticket-based technical support system
• Identify common technical issues and proactively develop troubleshooting content
• Collaborate with educators, mentors, and regional coordinators to keep student projects on track

Innovation & Quality Assurance

• Test prototype systems to ensure safety, reliability, and usability
• Suggest improvements to kits, tools, templates, and learning experiences
• Support development of evaluation rubrics for assessing the technical elements of student projects

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in IoT systems
• 2+ years of experience in technical or engineering project management
• Strong documentation, instructional design, and communication skills
• Experience working in diverse, virtual environments
• Passion for youth education, global innovation, and STEM access

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with K–12 students or within educational programs
• Familiarity with project-based learning (PBL) and STEM curriculum design
• Ability to manage project timelines across multiple workstreams and stakeholders

Time Commitment and Contract

• 20 hours per week during key phases (kit development, onboarding, and technical support)
• Availability for weekly meetings, training sessions, and responsive ticket resolution
• Available for attendance at the Global Showcase in Washington, D.C. and other countries.
• Part-Time or Contract (with potential for full-time)
