Director of Engineering - New Business

As a Director of Engineering with Flipkart, you will be leading a team of managers, architects and engineers across levels and driving the technology vision for the team working on a spectrum of products and platforms that power the FK travel Platform. You will be responsible for end to end ownership of software development, for scalability and quality of the solutions and for active grooming and mentoring of the team you lead. This is an important, high ownership and strategic role within the company, and our expectations are equally high.

On a day to day basis, you will be responsible for evangelising ideas, providing technical direction and building high quality and low latency platforms while building and leading a high performance engineering team. You will collaborate with product and business stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions to complex problems with speed, quality and agility.

You will also focus on building a strong team culture, fostering accountability and responsiveness, and provide mentorship and career development to the team.

Roles & Responsibilities (What you’ll do):

• You will lead a team of engineers (40+ engineers) fostering a culture of high productivity, customer centricity and technical excellence.
• You will provide hands-on technical leadership to the top engineers and engineering managers.
• You will partner and collaborate with the peers in Product, Business and Data teams to deliver innovative solutions focused on real customer needs with high quality and build processes to ensure seamless delivery and predictability as we ship new products to customers.
• You will ensure proper tooling and processes are in place to ensure high quality deliverables.
• You will proactively work on building the needed instrumentation and observability in the systems your teams deliver.
• You need to proactively set clear expectations and career paths to the team with active mentoring and grooming to ensure retention of top talent.
• You will be the coach and the captain.
• You will also need to proactively manage any gaps or risks in the organization design, skill sets, tech stack or processes.
• You will be trusted with the execution of the roadmap and that you will not only deliver the solutions on near estimated time but the solutions will be extensible, maintainable and scalable in architecture.

Skills Required (What you’ll need):

• B.E or M.tech or any other similar qualification with at least 16+ years of experience in building cutting edge products.
• Experience in managing seasoned managers and architect is mandatory
• Good understanding of technology and architecture in a highly scalable and available setup
• Strong experience handling large data (batch and real-time), workflows and scheduling, building pluggable frameworks and systems, strong abstraction, and design skills.
• Proven track record of delivering products with high quality, familiarity with multiple software development practices and tools
• Strong partnership with product and business teams that demonstrates effective collaboration and communication across multiple stakeholders
• Strong domain experience in travel is mandatory.
