Job Summary -

The Director Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering function at the API manufacturing unit, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, customer audit standards, and operational excellence. The role involves strategic planning, maintenance management, cost optimization, and implementation of world-class practices in safety, reliability, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities.

1. Department Leadership & Compliance

  • Manage the engineering department and ensure adherence to legal, statutory, and customer audit requirements.
  • Maintain engineering systems in compliance with international regulatory standards (USFDA, MHRA, ANVISA).

2. Maintenance Management

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance in alignment with TPM standards.
  • Implement preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Drive de-bottlenecking initiatives for maintenance and operations.

3. Planning & Budgeting

  • Align engineering services with plant requirements for optimum output.
  • Control engineering costs within budget through Lean Sigma projects, focusing on MTTR and MTBF improvements.

4. Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Support Six Sigma, Sankalp, and WCM initiatives across engineering functions.
  • Execute cost optimization projects and CAPEX implementation.

5. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Ensure strict compliance with SOPs and highest safety standards.
  • Implement and monitor safety initiatives across engineering operations.

6. People Development

  • Build team capability through interdisciplinary training programs.
  • Drive talent development and retention of high performers.
  • Implement WAP recommendations to enhance employee engagement scores.

7. Vendor & Resource Management

  • Manage vendor relationships for engineering services and materials.

Education & Experience

  • Qualification: B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering; Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE) certification.
  • Experience: Minimum 18+ years in engineering functions within large integrated API/Pharma plants.

Technical Expertise

  • In-depth knowledge of IBR regulations and safety interlocks for boilers, turbines, and DG sets.
  • Strong understanding of HT/LT electrical systems and statutory compliance for chemical/API units.
  • Expertise in plant operations, utilities, and cGMP requirements.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma and WCM implementation.
  • Awareness of modern EHS practices and validation requirements.

  • Working Knowledge: Applies full range of concepts and practices in daily operations.
  • Functional Expert: Certified expert with strong conceptual knowledge.
  • Mastery: Subject matter expert with command over engineering systems and processes.
