Role Overview

DataPower Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, clients, and internal teams to understand requirements and design integration/API solutions using IBM DataPower Gateway and Azure APIM.
• Implement and configure DataPower services: API gateway proxies, multi-protocol gateways, security policies, routing rules, transformations (XML ↔ JSON), SOAP/REST integrations, and other DataPower constructs.
• Support Unit Testing (UT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and assist with load and performance testing when required.
• Perform performance tuning, troubleshooting and infrastructure optimization to ensure stable and high-performance integration services.
• Handle interface code remediation, as may be required for bug fixes, performance improvements or design changes.
• Plan and support APIM upgrades — ensuring minimal downtime and smooth roll-outs.
• Provide recommendations and assist with implementing CI/CD pipelines for API/Middleware deployments and configuration management.
• Manage certificate/credential management, security configurations, and ensure compliance with enterprise security and governance policies (authentication/authorization, encryption, SSL/TLS, etc.).
• Provide support for business-as-usual (BAU) requests, production issue resolution, maintenance, and enhancements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 4 to 6 years of hands-on experience with IBM DataPower Gateway (physical appliance or virtual edition).
• Good working knowledge of API gateways / API management solutions; familiarity with Azure API Management (APIM) is strongly preferred.
• Solid experience in designing and implementing RESTful and/or SOAP-based APIs and integration flows, handling transformations (XML/JSON), routing, authentication/authorization, and security policies.
• Strong scripting / configuration skills — familiarity with GatewayScript / XSLT / JavaScript / any relevant scripting or configuration languages used in DataPower or APIM setups is a plus.
• Good understanding of API security standards/protocols (e.g. OAuth, JWT, WS-Security, TLS/SSL), encryption, and key/certificate management.
• Experience in production support, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and maintaining high availability of API/integration infrastructure.
• Good communication and collaboration skills — able to work with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
