Why we're hiring:

As a Data Engineer in the WPP Enterprise Data Group, you will play a crucial role in supporting WPP's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) initiatives. You will design and implement scalable data solutions, focusing on the ingestion, processing, and availability of diverse sustainability-related datasets. This role involves building robust data pipelines to ensure high-quality, auditable data for CSRD reporting and analysis.As part of a team, your role will be focused on delivering solutions that leverage large scale data ingestion, processing, storage/querying, streaming & batch analytics using Azure Databricks, as well as other Azure based technologies.You will be joining a group of Data Engineers who are passionate about building the best possible solutions for our business and endorse a culture of life-long learning and collaboration.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design and build data ingestion pipelines from various sources (including APIs) to support CSRD reporting requirements.
  • Ensure data availability and accessibility within Azure Databricks for analysis and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain robust data processing pipelines using PySpark/SQL to transform raw sustainability data into structured, reportable formats.
  • Support ongoing maintenance and optimization of data pipelines to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability for CSRD data.
  • Facilitate the exposure of CSRD data to third-party platforms, specifically Watershed, ensuring seamless integration and data transfer.
  • Work with a variety of structured datasets, including those related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics.
  • Deliver data migrations between legacy platforms & Azure Databricks.
  • Propose technical designs and develop integrations.
  • Design & deliver data warehousing solutions and key data engineering workstreams for any required solution.
Support cross-functional teams across the data space, collaborating closely with Data Analysts and CSRD stakeholders.

What you'll need:

Minimum requirements for this role include:
  • 3+ years of experience in Python and SQL
  • Experience using Databricks
  • Experience of Microsoft Azure data services –ADLS gen2, Azure Key Vault, Data Factory
  • Ideally experience in the following –Delta Lake, PySpark
  • Fluency in English
  • Exposure to data science / ML is a plus
  • Proven experience with API integrations for data ingestion.
  • Familiarity with ESG or sustainability data concepts is a plus
