Data Engineer-Power BI

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer with PowerBI and Data Modeling expertise to maintain and enhance existing PowerBI dashboards, optimize the semantic data model, and support the migration of data models to a more abstract transformation layer. This role requires a strong understanding of PowerBI architecture, data modeling best practices, and performance optimization techniques to ensure reliable, scalable, and accurate data delivery to stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Maintain and enhance existing PowerBI dashboards ensuring business continuity and data accuracy. Support the migration of current data models to an abstracted transformation layer (e.g., Azure Data Factory, SQL, Synapse, etc.). Optimize the current PowerBI semantic model for performance, scalability, and maintainability. Ensure efficient and secure connections between PowerBI and various data sources (SQL Server, Azure, etc.). Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, and developers to gather requirements and translate them into effective data models and visualizations. Identify and resolve data quality and performance issues. Implement best practices for PowerBI dataset management, including incremental refresh, dataflows, and reusable components. Document data models, transformations, and dashboard logic for internal use and knowledge sharing. Required Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in data engineering and BI development, with a strong focus on PowerBI. Expertise in PowerBI Desktop, Service, and the PowerBI ecosystem (Dataflows, DAX, Gateways, etc.). Deep understanding of semantic modeling concepts including star/snowflake schema, measures, calculated columns, relationships, etc. Experience with optimizing PowerBI reports for performance (query folding, aggregation tables, performance analyzer). Strong SQL skills and experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or similar). Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (Azure Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks, etc.).
