Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Credit Policy & Risk Management
- Design, implement, and periodically review credit control policies, procedures, and customer credit limits aligned with business objectives and risk appetite.
- Assess customer creditworthiness using financial statements, credit reports, payment history, and market intelligence.
- Approve, revise, or withdraw credit limits based on risk evaluation and payment behavior.
- Identify high-risk accounts and recommend risk mitigation measures such as advance payments, bank guarantees, credit insurance, or revised terms.
- Ensure strict adherence to internal credit policies and escalate deviations to senior management.
2. Accounts Receivable Management
- Oversee the complete accounts receivable lifecycle, including invoicing, collections, adjustments, reconciliations, and customer ledger maintenance.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly receivables and aging reports to ensure timely collections.
- Drive initiatives to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and overdue balances.
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of receipts.
- Review provisions for doubtful debts and recommend write-offs in compliance with accounting standards.
3. Collections & Recovery
- Develop structured and segmented collection strategies based on customer profiles and aging buckets.
- Ensure systematic follow-up on overdue accounts through calls, emails, reminders, and meetings.
- Personally manage critical, high-value, or long-pending accounts, negotiating payment plans or settlements where required.
- Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve disputes related to pricing, delivery, or documentation.
- Liaise with Legal teams, collection agencies, or external consultants for escalations, recoveries, or litigation.
4. Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the credit control and collections team.
- Set clear individual and team targets aligned with departmental KPIs.
- Monitor performance, conduct periodic reviews, and identify training and development needs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
5. Reporting & MIS
- Prepare and present detailed MIS reports covering receivables aging, overdue analysis, customer-wise exposure, bad debts, and collection efficiency.
- Provide accurate cash flow forecasts based on expected collections.
- Highlight key risks, trends, and problem accounts with actionable recommendations to senior management.
- Support management reviews, audits, and board-level reporting on receivables and credit risk.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Sales teams to align credit decisions with growth objectives while controlling risk exposure.
- Participate in contract reviews to ensure favorable credit terms and policy compliance.
- Coordinate with Treasury, Accounts Payable, and Banking teams to optimize cash management.
- Act as the primary point of contact for auditors, internal control teams, and statutory authorities on credit-related matters.
7. Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain complete documentation for credit approvals, customer agreements, and legal cases.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate data, reconciliations, and explanations.
- Drive system and process improvements within ERP/accounting systems for enhanced control and visibility.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as
CA / CMA / MBA (Finance)
preferred. 7to 12 years
of experience in credit control and accounts receivable, including 35 years in a managerial role
.
