Community Engagement Manager

The Smart Data Donation Service (SDDS) is a new large-scale piece of research infrastructure funded by Smart Data Research UK's Data Services Call. The SDDS combines extensive research facilitation with the construction of technical infrastructure at scale at the University of York. The primary goal of the SDDS is to empower individuals by making their data rights work for them. In a landscape where corporations hold vast amounts of behavioral data about citizens, this data is often inaccessible to both individuals who generated it and independent researchers who need it to understand the impacts of online environments. However, under GDPR regulations, individuals have the right to data portability, enabling them to obtain a copy of their personal data from a corporation and share it with the research community. The SDDS operates on the principle of data donation, allowing individuals to exercise their right to data portability on a large scale, thereby facilitating massive-scale data donations at a national level. This innovative approach aims to break deadlocks in understanding domains like gaming and social media. The successful candidate for the position of Community Engagement Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the SDDS project. We are seeking an experienced, adaptable, and passionate individual with a background in engaging, involving, and collaborating with the public. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of public involvement, engagement, and co-production methods. This role presents a unique opportunity to drive profound societal change in the realms of online safety and digital wellbeing. The selected candidate will also contribute to large-scale team science, leveraging an inclusive and dynamic research institution to realize the project's vision. Key responsibilities include: - Delivering external engagement: Collaborate with the SDDS management team and Involvement@Yorks team to develop and implement the project's public involvement and engagement strategy. Serve as the central point of contact for managing all aspects of the project's public involvement activities. - Operational management: Support the Service Manager in executing administrative tasks essential for the effective operation of the SDDS. This includes tasks such as meeting and event planning, external stakeholder engagement, collaboration, project monitoring, and financial reporting. - Partnership management: Facilitate effective co-production and partnership working between public contributors and the research team. Provide a friendly and supportive point of contact for all public contributors throughout the engagement process. - Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: Contribute to the development and implementation of a service-wide strategy for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion as part of the overall public involvement and engagement strategy.
