Job Summary

The Cisco Senior Voice Engineer leads the strategy, design, implementation, and management of complex enterprise voice infrastructure using Cisco technologies. This senior role requires strong technical proficiency, proven project leadership, experience mentoring junior team members, and expertise bridging voice and data networks in globally distributed environments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead design, configuration, and troubleshooting of advanced Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Unity Connection, voice gateways (VG-224, VG-310, VG-204), CUBE, SIP trunks, and associated platforms.
  • Architect, implement, and optimize voice networks and dial plans, including advanced call routing (translation, transformation, route patterns), PRI/T1/E1 integration, and North American dial plan standards.
  • Oversee Unity call handler design and troubleshooting, including auto-attendants, recorded greetings, transfer rules, and messaging flow.
  • Coordinate with service providers for T1/E1 troubleshooting and resolve carrier-related issues to ensure continuous voice service.
  • Diagnose and support media resources (MTPs, conference bridges, transcoders), SIP headers, and SIP call flows for optimal system reliability and performance.
  • Manage escalations and serve as the final point of contact for critical incidents; mentor and train junior engineers on voice best practices.
  • Analyze and tune network health, resource utilization, and rapid recovery from outages.
  • Document system architecture, configuration changes, and develop knowledge base articles for internal teams.
  • Steer large-scale migrations, upgrades, and voice deployments, ensuring alignment with global enterprise needs.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate voice, data, security, and wireless services for holistic communication environments.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelors (or higher) in Computer Science, IT, Electronics & Communications, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in voice engineering, with deep expertise in Cisco systems (CUCM, Unity, CUBE, voice gateways).
  • Strong knowledge of call routing (translation/transformation/route patterns), dial plan design, and voice carrier protocols.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for T1/E1 circuits, SIP signaling, media resources (MTP, conference bridges, transcoders), and carrier services.
  • Experience leading projects, upgrading/migrating enterprise voice solutions, and mentoring teams.
  • Familiarity with large-scale multi-site deployments, wireless/BYOD voice security, and voice/data integration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Certifications such as CCNP Collaboration, CCIE Collaboration preferred.
