Job Description

About the Role:

The Build Specialist for Service Desk is responsible for Creating, Managing, Distributing Software Packages and maintaining the systems and tools that facilitate the efficient operation of the service desk. This role involves working closely with other IT professionals and service desk staff to ensure that the IT environment is optimized for performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:


  1. Packaging Software:

Packaging software and methods used to bundle software applications into a distributable format. This involves several aspects depending on the type of software and the platform.

Testing and Validation:

Testing and validation are crucial stages in the software development lifecycle, particularly for build specialists who are responsible for ensuring that builds are correctly integrated, functional, and stable in different environments.

Deployment:

The deployment process for a build specialist involves taking a successfully built and tested software application and moving it into a production environment where end-users can access it. This process can vary depending on the type of application (web, desktop, mobile, etc.) and the deployment environment (on-premises, cloud-based, hybrid).

Updates and Maintenance:

Updating and maintaining build systems and processes is a key responsibility for build specialists. This involves ensuring that the build infrastructure remains robust, secure, and efficient as software projects evolve.

Troubleshooting:

Troubleshooting is a critical skill for a build specialist, as it involves diagnosing and resolving issues that arise during the build and deployment processes. Effective troubleshooting helps maintain the stability and efficiency of the software development lifecycle


Technical Skillset:

1. Identify and deploy application updates through Microsoft Intune.

2.Work with customers to architect modern Desktop/Device management solutions using Windows 10/ Android/ iOS with Intune and MDM

3. Experience managing SharePoint

4.TCP/IP fundamentals & Microsoft Windows-based networks and servers, including Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure Virtual Desktop, Intune

5. Experience of operating system installations, adding driver support for new hardware and maintaining builds

6.Experience of application packaging and software deployment concepts and technologies

7Group Policy, on-premises domains and other ‘legacy’ MS technologies

8.Microsoft Windows Server Update Services

9.Microsoft SQL Server installation and administration
