Purpose/Objective


    Assistant Mines Manager manages day-to-day mining operations during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, operational plans, and corporate policies. The role includes overseeing the deployment of personnel and equipment, optimizing shift schedules, and managing costs to maximize productivity. The Assistant Mines Manager also implements internal controls, maintains transparency in shift activities, and addresses any operational issues promptly. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior staff, conducting regular training sessions, and ensuring effective communication and coordination within the shift team and with other departments.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Shift Operations Management: Manage day-to-day mining operations during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and operational plans. Coordinate with the Statutory Mines Manager to align shift activities with overall mine objectives. Oversee the deployment of personnel and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations. Supervision and Workforce Management: Supervise the work of Mines Foremen and Mining Mates, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to shift personnel. Address any operational issues that arise during the shift, ensuring they are resolved promptly and effectively. Safety Governance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all shift operations comply with statutory regulations, including those mandated by DGMS and the Mines Act 1952. Conduct pre-shift safety briefings and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and incidents. Respond promptly to safety concerns, ensuring that they are addressed and reported according to company policy. Cost Management and Resource Optimization: Monitor and control shift-related expenses, ensuring that all activities are conducted within budget. Optimize shift schedules and resource allocation to maximize productivity and minimize costs. Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising safety or operational effectiveness. Internal Controls and Transparency: Implement and monitor internal controls during shift operations to ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements. Maintain detailed and accurate records of shift activities, including production data, personnel deployment, and safety incidents. Ensure transparency in all shift operations, promoting accountability and integrity among shift personnel. Equipment and Maintenance Coordination: Monitor the performance of mining equipment during the shift, ensuring that it is operated safely and efficiently. Coordinate with the Maintenance Head to schedule necessary repairs or maintenance, minimizing equipment downtime. Ensure that all equipment is inspected regularly and that any issues are reported promptly. Team Leadership and Development: Provide guidance and support to shift personnel, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. Conduct regular training sessions to ensure that all team members are up-to-date with safety practices and operational procedures. Mentor junior staff, providing opportunities for skill development and career advancement. Communication and Coordination: Ensure effective communication within the shift team and with other shifts, facilitating a smooth handover of responsibilities. Liaise with other departments, such as maintenance and logistics, to ensure that shift operations are coordinated effectively. Act as the main point of contact for any issues that arise during the shift, ensuring they are addressed promptly. Qualifications and Experience


    Education Qualification: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering. Work Experience: 3+ years of experience in mining operations, with exposure to shift management and compliance with safety regulations. Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Mines Act 1952, MMR 1961, and DGMS guidelines. Proficiency in managing shift operations, optimizing resource allocation, and maintaining operational continuity.
