Job Description – Assistant Professor (OBG Nursing)

1. Position Overview

The Assistant Professor in OBG Nursing plays a key academic and clinical role in teaching, mentoring, and supervising students in Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing. The position supports departmental academic planning, delivers high-quality classes, oversees clinical postings, and ensures compliance with INC/TNNMC standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

• Conduct theory classes for B.Sc Nursing, PB-B.Sc Nursing, and M.Sc Nursing (OBG).
• Prepare structured lesson plans, unit plans, PowerPoint presentations, and academic content.
• Develop exam question papers, assignments, internal assessments, and evaluation tools.
• Support curriculum delivery aligned with INC guidelines and institutional academic calendar.
• Use simulation labs, skill demonstrations, and evidence-based teaching methods.
• Guide students in seminars, case studies, and clinical presentations.

B. Clinical Responsibilities

• Supervise students in clinical postings such as:
• Labour Room (LR)
• Antenatal Ward
• Postnatal Ward
• Gynecology Ward
• Family Welfare/FP Clinics
• NICU (associated neonatal care exposure)
• Demonstrate essential OBG procedures:
• Per abdominal examination
• Per vaginal examination (simulation-based where applicable)
• Intranatal care
• Postnatal assessment
• Newborn care
• Partograph recording
• Emergency obstetric procedures (demonstrations using models)
• Maintain clinical evaluation records and student performance tracking sheets.
• Coordinate with affiliated hospitals and clinical instructors for postings.

C. Research Responsibilities

• Guide UG and PG students in research:
• Topic selection
• Proposal writing
• Data collection methods
• Report preparations
• Encourage students’ participation in conferences, workshops, and paper presentations.

D. Administrative Responsibilities

• Support the HOD in departmental academic management and scheduling.
• Maintain required documentation for INC/TNNMC audits and inspections.
• Participate in institutional committees such as:
• Discipline Committee
• Anti-Ragging Committee
• Examination Cell
• IQAC Subcommittees
• Assist with organizing workshops, CMEs, health camps, and awareness programs.

E. Student Support & Mentoring

• Provide academic counseling and individual student mentoring.
• Address student grievances related to academics or clinical postings.
• Promote ethical, professional, and patient-centered behaviors in students.

3. Required Qualifications

• M.Sc Nursing (OBG Nursing / Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing) – Mandatory
• Valid TNNMC Registration
• Minimum 3 years of teaching/clinical experience post-M.Sc (preferred)
• Freshers with strong clinical skills may be considered for Lecturer roles

4. Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong theoretical and clinical expertise in OBG Nursing
• Proficiency in labour room and antenatal/postnatal clinical skills
• Excellent communication, teaching, and student management skills
• Ability to develop academic documents and maintain records
• Good knowledge of INC/TNNMC norms
• Research understanding and guidance capability
• Ability to use simulation & digital teaching tools

5. Salary Range

• Rs. 20,000 – 40,000 per month
