Job Description

The Assistant Professor of Legal Studies will contribute to the academic mission of the department through high-quality teaching, scholarly research, and service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in legal studies and related fields, maintain an active research agenda, advise students, and participate in departmental and university committees.

Key Responsibilities1. Teaching & Instruction

  • Teach a range of courses in legal studies, such as:
  • Introduction to Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Business Law
  • Criminal Justice
  • Legal Research & Writing
  • Ethics and Professional Responsibility
  • Develop course syllabi, assignments, exams, and instructional materials.
  • Create an inclusive, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom environment.
  • Utilize effective instructional methods, including active learning and technology-enhanced teaching.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress and career planning.

2. Research & Scholarship

  • Conduct original scholarly research in the field of law or legal studies.
  • Publish articles, book chapters, or monographs in peer-reviewed journals or academic presses.
  • Present research at national and international conferences.
  • Seek external funding or grants, when applicable.

3. Service to Department and University

  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and outreach activities.
  • Contribute to accreditation processes or program reviews.

4. Community & Professional Engagement

  • Engage with legal organizations, professional associations, and community partners.
  • Provide expertise for public events, workshops, or continuing education programs.
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary initiatives with other departments.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in Legal Studies, Law , (completed ).
  • UGC NET Qualified.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching a broad range of legal studies courses.
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications or ongoing research projects.
  • Experience with curriculum development or instructional innovation.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and scholarship.
  • Professional legal experience (e.g., practicing attorney, legal consultant) is advantageous but not always required.
