Assistant Manager - Transportation

Role & responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor all transportation activities including fleet operations, route planning, dispatching, scheduling, and load management to ensure timely, efficient, and safe delivery of materials and goods. Recruiting Resources+2Superworks+2

• Ensure compliance with transport laws, regulations and statutory requirements (including licensing, registration, permits, driver documentation, vehicle fitness, load/weight norms, third-party insurance, etc.) as governed under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and associated rules. • Develop, implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for transportation operations — including driver training on defensive & safe driving, compliance with traffic rules, loading/unloading practices, vehicle use, and emergency protocols. Expertia+1
  
• Coordinate with internal teams (warehouse, operations, procurement, supply-chain) and external stakeholders (carriers, vendors, regulatory authorities) to plan and execute transport as per demand, maintain on-time delivery, avoid delays and optimize costs. • Monitor transportation performance metrics (on-time delivery rate, fuel & maintenance costs, vehicle utilization, compliance incidents, safety records) — prepare and submit periodic reports to management, highlight gaps, and suggest improvements. Superworks+1

Preferred candidate profile

• Total experience:

  8-10 years

  in transportation / fleet management / logistics operations preferably with exposure to large-scale operations (warehousing + transport) in India.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of Indian transport laws/regulations (especially Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 + amendments), licensing, permits, vehicle registration, fitness norms, load/weight rules, insurance norms, etc. Wikipedia+2iPleaders+2
  
• Familiarity with fleet management principles: vehicle maintenance, inspection, scheduling/dispatching, route planning, driver management, load management.
  
• Good understanding of logistics & supply-chain operations, different modes of transportation, coordination across departments, and dispatching practices.
  
• Leadership and team-management skills — ability to supervise drivers, assign tasks, train personnel, enforce compliance, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  
• Strong planning, analytical and organizational skills; proficiency in record-keeping, reporting, data management (fleet logs, KPIs, maintenance schedules).
  
• Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills — internally (warehouse, procurement, operations) and externally (vendors, regulatory authorities, transporters).
  
• Problem-solving mindset, proactive approach to safety, compliance, cost control and operational efficiency.
  
• Preferably — prior exposure to ERP / transport-management software / fleet-management tools (or willingness to adapt).
