A salesperson acts as the bridge between a company and its customers. Their primary mission is to generate revenue by identifying potential clients, understanding their needs, and providing solutions that lead to a sale.

The specific responsibilities vary depending on whether the role is B2B (Business-to-Business) or Retail/B2C (Business-to-Consumer), but here is a comprehensive breakdown of the core duties.

1. Lead Generation & Prospecting

Before making a sale, a salesperson must find people to sell to.

  • Identifying Leads: Researching individuals or companies that fit the target market.
  • Outreach: Contacting potential clients through cold calling, emails, social media (like LinkedIn), or networking events.
  • Qualifying: Determining if a prospect has the budget, authority, and actual need for the product.

2. The Sales Process & Negotiation

  • Product Demonstrations: Giving presentations or demos to show how a product or service solves the client's problems.
