Job Description

As a Polymer Scientist, your primary responsibility will involve designing, developing, and optimizing emulsion polymerization and Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) processes to synthesize water-based polymers for various applications. You will be tasked with conducting detailed chemical, physical, and mechanical testing of polymer products, which includes particle size analysis, viscosity measurements, and glass transition temperature (Tg) analysis. One of your key duties will be to lead the scale-up of laboratory-scale processes to pilot and production-scale manufacturing, ensuring consistent quality and performance. You will also focus on improving process efficiencies, yields, and reproducibility through continuous process improvement strategies. Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as product development, marketing, and manufacturing will be essential to ensure that polymer products meet customer and regulatory requirements. Your role will also involve troubleshooting and providing technical support to solve production issues related to emulsion polymerization processes and product quality. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining comprehensive lab notebooks, writing technical reports, and preparing presentations to communicate results and findings to internal and external stakeholders. Staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in polymer science, particularly in emulsion polymerization, and providing input into the development of new product lines will be crucial. To excel in this role, you must possess in-depth knowledge of emulsion polymerization techniques such as batch, semi-batch, and continuous processes. A strong understanding of polymer structure-property relationships is essential, along with experience in analytical techniques like GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, NMR, and GCMS. Familiarity with developing polymer products for coatings, adhesives, paints, or similar industries, as well as knowledge of regulatory standards and environmental considerations for water-based polymers, will be beneficial. Your technical proficiency should include expertise in batch, semi-batch, and continuous emulsion polymerization processes, free radical polymerization, dispersion polymerization, and miniemulsion polymerization. Additionally, you should be proficient in selecting and using surfactants, emulsifiers, and stabilizers for emulsion polymer systems and have the ability to utilize analytical tools for polymer characterization. A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is required for this position, along with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in emulsion polymer and PUD synthesis, preferably in an industrial setting. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills will be essential for success in this role.,
