As a Polymer Scientist, your primary responsibility will involve designing, developing, and optimizing emulsion polymerization and Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) processes to synthesize water-based polymers for various applications. A strong understanding of polymer structure-property relationships is essential, along with experience in analytical techniques like GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, NMR, and GCMS. Familiarity with developing polymer products for coatings, adhesives, paints, or similar industries, as well as knowledge of regulatory standards and environmental considerations for water-based polymers, will be beneficial. Your technical proficiency should include expertise in batch, semi-batch, and continuous emulsion polymerization processes, free radical polymerization, dispersion polymerization, and miniemulsion polymerization. Additionally, you should be proficient in selecting and using surfactants, emulsifiers, and stabilizers for emulsion polymer systems and have the ability to utilize analytical tools for polymer characterization. A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is required for this position, along with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in emulsion polymer and PUD synthesis, preferably in an industrial setting. Look for signs of slag penetration or erosion. Physical Property Testing: Density and Porosity: Determine the material's density and porosity, which influence its strength and heat resistance. Thermal Conductivity: Measure the material's ability to conduct heat, which is crucial for maintaining furnace temperature and preventing overheating. Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: Determine the material's expansion and contraction rate under temperature changes, which is important for preventing cracks and stress buildup. Mechanical Properties: Test the material's strength and toughness through tests like compressive strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance. Chemical Analysis: Composition: Identify the chemical composition of the ceramic material to understand its chemical stability and resistance to chemical attack from slag and furnace atmosphere. Slag Resistance: Assess the material's resistance to slag penetration and erosion through chemical tests and experiments.
