Specialist IS Architect Workday Payroll

Roles & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Managers and System Architects to manage Workday Payroll configuration and analysis activities across assigned regions.
• Translate complex payroll and compliance requirements into Workday Payroll configuration logic that supports accuracy and automation.
• Configure and maintain earnings, deductions, pay components, payroll inputs, costing allocations, and calculation rules.
• Set up and validate federal, state, and local tax configurations, ensuring compliance with regional payroll legislation.
• Manage payroll business processes, retro pay setups, off-cycle payments, and payroll event processing.
• Partner with Finance and HR to align General Ledger (GL) integration, reconciliation, and payroll costing.
• Define and maintain testing scripts and acceptance criteria for payroll configuration changes and releases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end payroll accuracy, including integration touchpoints with Time Tracking, Benefits, and Financials.
• Troubleshoot payroll results, investigate calculation discrepancies, and recommend configuration-level corrections.
• Support payroll audits, reporting needs, and compliance reviews through accurate documentation and testing evidence.
• Conduct configuration walkthroughs and demonstrations for stakeholders and payroll operations teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Min 7+ years of hands-on Workday Payroll configuration experience with focus on US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
• Strong understanding of earnings, deductions, pay components, tax setup, and retro pay processing.
• Experience in configuring and maintaining GL integrations and payroll costing allocations.
• Proven ability to manage end-to-end payroll setup, testing, and validation for multiple jurisdictions.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance, wage and hour laws, and payroll taxation rules.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret payroll results and troubleshoot complex configuration issues.
• Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
• Workday Payroll certification preferred.
• Experience with Agile delivery practices and cross-functional team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting multi-country payroll operations or multi-tenant Workday environments.
• Familiarity with Workday integrations (e.g., to ADP, financial systems, or tax authorities).
• Understanding of parallel testing, audit controls, and payroll reporting frameworks.
