Reporting to the Vice President of Enterprise Payments, this newly created role of Vice President, Enterprise Payments Product Development is an exciting opportunity for a talented product leader to stand up a new Payments Product Delivery Center in India with the mission of accelerating the development of a cutting-edge multi-rail payment service. This service will unify multiple payment types (e.g., card networks, ACH, wires, real time payments, etc.) under a single, scalable, secure, enterprise-wide platform. As the VP, Enterprise Payments Product Development, you will be responsible for leading a team of talented product owners [LM1] to collaborate with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to modernize and develop new payment capabilities. The incumbent will be an integral leader within a large scale, enterprise-wide program and will help to reshape and transform how payment products are built and delivered at American Express.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product development across the Enterprise Payments portfolio, ensuring end-to-end delivery of scalable, innovative, and compliance payment products, services and capabilities
- Collaborate with Product Management teams to translate product strategies and roadmaps into actionable delivery plans, ensuring alignment with business goals, customer needs, and regulatory requirements
- Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Risk, and Operations to deliver resilient, scalable, and industry-leading payment solutions
- Establish and scale a cross-functional, self-sustaining team in India that is empowered to independently deliver enterprise-grade payment capabilities
- Drive a phased buildout plan for a new Product Delivery Center in India and cultivate a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and accountability across global and India-based teams
- Lead end-to-end product delivery lifecycle to ensure on time, on budget, and high-quality outcomes
- Establish delivery frameworks, KPIs, and governance models to continuously improve delivery predictability, time to market, delivery efficiency and effectiveness
- Partner with Product Operations, Risk and Compliance teams to embed regulatory, scheme, and operational risk requirements into the delivery lifecycle and ensure appropriate controls are designed and maintained throughout the development process
- Develop and syndicate capability release plans with key stakeholders, e.g., Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Risk, business owners, market teams, etc.
- Collaborate with and influence internal business unit leaders and partners to prioritize demand across the enterprise, drive cross-functional strategic initiatives, and ensure delivery against goals and objectives of the enterprise payments organization
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant experience: 10 years minimum experience in global payments, ideally within Product Development, Platform Management, and/or Product Delivery.
- Product delivery track record: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a Product organization, collaborating with Technology partners to prioritize and deliver on a product and capabilities roadmap.
- Large program experience: Proven ability to drive change, lead adoption of new ways of working, and leverage scaled Agile practices to drive large, complex, and transformational initiatives.
- Passion for payments and innovation: Passion for payments and the advancement in technologies driving innovation in the payments ecosystem. Knowledge of Bill Pay capabilities and/or A2A money movement (ACH, wires, RTP, etc.).
- Analytical mindset: High intellectual curiosity and strong analytical and critical thinking skills with experience in complex problem solving and strategic thought leadership.
- Highly collaborative: Ability to effectively collaborate with and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on shared objectives.
- Entrepreneurial spirit: Ability to mobilize and lead cross-functional team collaboration to achieve results in a fast paced, multi-partner environment with constant change. Demonstrated track record for delivering results in complex and highly matrixed organizations.
