Voice AI Engineer at a YC startup

Deep Tech Stars is recruiting top AI developers on behalf of its client, a fast-growing, funded AI startup.

The startup is building an agentic AI platform for financial services, especially solving the compliance problem. Since launching, they are live with large enterprises and banks across the US, Europe, and APAC and growing at double digits per month. They are backed by world-class investors, including Y Combinator, Tribe Capital, PayPal, etc.

They are now looking for a voice AI engineer to help shape the company's tech, product, and culture. They are looking to hire mid to senior engineers who can grow the product into a more scalable, robust platform.

What to expect

You can expect to do all of the following:

1. Build large-scale agents for voice and chats for enterprises
2. Evaluate multiple models for VAD, turn detection, interrupt handling, etc.
3. Handle MLOps to ensure low-latency responses
4. Clean, prune, and collect datasets to analyze model performance, hallucination rates, recall, etc.
5. Research and implement SOTA approaches for knowledge graphs and Graph RAGs
6. Run evals

About you

1. You have built things from 0 to 1 or 1 to 10 (which is typically an early or growth stage startup)
2. Experience with voice AI is mandatory. You have built and taken voice AI agents to production, run monitoring, and made improvements. You have worked with frameworks such as Pipecat and Livekit.
3. You have an extremely strong bias toward action, strong motivation, side projects, and to have built and/or scaled systems from scratch.
4. You have 3+ years of experience overall.
5. You are willing to live and work in either Gururgam or Chennai

Pay and benefits

Salary - INR 20L-50L

Equity - 0.01% - 0.03%

They give you the flexibility to choose the split between cash and equity.

Why you should not join

1. If you want to coast along and do the minimal possible work. The work hours will be intense – they believe in less micro-management and high accountability. It takes a lot of sweat to get a startup off the ground, and you will let the team down if you don’t pull your socks up.
2. If you cannot do intense work every day (with exceptions, of course). The previous point talks about the sheer quantity of the work, but this one is more about the quality. They have intentionally kept meetings to a bare minimum, so people can get into their zones and be productive. But if this distracts you and you end up doing half-assed work, then this is not the right fit for you.
3. If you have low ambition. They believe in hiring ambitious and hard-working folks who will never take 

   no

    for an answer. They also hire people with strong intrinsic motivation. People who have succeeded so far are the ones who can run with things even without structure and work hard even when no one is watching. People they have had to let go have had issues with motivation, needed babysitting, do fake work to get standup updates out, and cannot handle feedback.
4. If you are not easy-going with the team. They have hired a team of people who are friendly and help each other out. There is zero attitude in the team. They sometimes have conflicting opinions on how things should be done, but at the end of the day they disagree and still commit to doing what moves the company forward.
5. If you cannot join the Gurgaon office (Sector 54, Golf Course Rd) or Chennai office (T.Nagar) at least 4 days a week.
