Job Description

A Head of Operations in a construction contracting company is responsible for overseeing every aspect of operations to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective project delivery. This role requires leadership in project execution, resource management, process optimization, compliance, and team development to ensure organizational goals are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with company goals for project execution, cost control, and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee day-to-day project operations, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk mitigation for all ongoing construction projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage project managers, site teams, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with industry standards, government regulations, contractual obligations, and internal quality and safety guidelines.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor processes for procurement, material management, subcontractor/ vendor relationships, and equipment utilization.
  • Track project progress and financial health, manage operational budgets, approve expenditures, and prepare financial and operational reports.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews of project teams and encourage ongoing professional development.
  • Drive continuous process improvements and innovation to maximize efficiency and quality while reducing costs and risks.
  • Act as a primary point of escalation for project-related challenges, resolving issues and communicating with clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (Masters preferred for larger organizations).
  • 18+ years of experience in construction operations, including at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven expertise in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a track record of driving operational improvement.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management software and MS Office.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction methodologies, compliance, contracts, and safety regulations.

Typical Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Managing Director, CEO, or Regional Vice President.
  • Supervises: Project Managers, Site Engineers, and operational support teams.
