Experience - Min. 3+ yrs. as a Vertical Lathe Machine Operator in manufacturing industry

Job Description

1. Machine Operation & Setup

• Set up and operate **Vertical Lathe Machines (VTL/VTL CNC)** according to job instructions and engineering drawings.

• Load and unload castings using cranes or lifting devices safely.

• Adjust machine settings (speed, feed, depth of cut) for different materials and sizes.

• Perform roughing and finishing operations on large casted components.

2. Machining & Quality Control

• Ensure machined components meet required **tolerances, dimensions, and surface finish** as per drawing.

• Measure components using **vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges**, and other precision instruments.

• Identify and correct machining errors, tool wear, and dimensional deviations.

• Work closely with the **quality control department** for part inspection and approval.

3. Tool & Equipment Maintenance

• Maintain cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures in good working condition.

• Perform **basic maintenance** of the machine (lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs).

• Report any mechanical or operational issues to the maintenance team.

4. Process & Production Support

• Read and interpret **technical drawings and process sheets** accurately.

• Record production data such as machining time, tool changes, and job completion.

• Support process improvement and productivity initiatives in the foundry machining section.

5. Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all **foundry safety protocols**, including use of PPE (gloves, safety shoes, helmet, goggles, etc.).

• Handle molten or cast parts safely to prevent accidents.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.

6. Coordination

• Coordinate with **production supervisors, tool room, and maintenance teams** to ensure smooth operation.

• Communicate effectively about machining challenges, delays, or tool/material shortages.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of **CNC programming (Fanuc / Siemens)** is an added advantage.

• Understanding of **foundry materials** (cast iron, SG iron, steel castings, etc.).

• Ability to read **engineering drawings and GD&T symbols**.

• Good understanding of **cutting speeds, feeds, and machining parameters** for heavy castings.

• Experience in handling **large components** using EOT cranes or hoists.
