Job Summary: A Debt Collector is responsible for contacting individuals or businesses with overdue bills to recover outstanding payments. The role requires persistence, strong communication skills, and a good understanding of financial regulations. Key Responsibilities:Contact customers via phone, email, or mail to collect outstanding debts. Negotiate payment plans and settlements within company guidelines. Maintain detailed records of collection activity and customer interactions. Follow up on payment commitments and ensure timely follow-through. Locate and track debtors using databases, skip tracing tools, and other resources. Adhere to all debt collection laws and company policies (e.g. FDCPA or local equivalents). Escalate unresponsive or high-risk accounts to legal or senior management when necessary. Required Skills & Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent (some employers prefer a college degree). Experience in customer service or collections is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Negotiation and conflict resolution abilities. Basic computer skills (CRM systems, Excel, email). Knowledge of debt collection laws and ethics. Working Conditions:Typically office-based or call center environment. May involve high call volumes and stressful conversations. Full-time or part-time hours; some evening/weekend shifts may be required.
