Sub-station Design Engineer

Job description

We are looking for a skilled Sub-Station Design Engineer with strong expertise in HV/EHV substations (AIS/GIS) up to 400 kV / 765 kV. The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs, ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, and IS standards, and coordinating across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineering of HV/EHV substation layouts (up to 400 kV / 765 kV / as per project scope).
• Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), GA drawings, equipment layouts, and earthing layouts.
• Develop schematic diagrams for protection, control & metering systems.
• Carry out cable sizing, busbar sizing, lightning protection, and grounding calculations.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and protection teams for integrated design.
• Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documents.
• Ensure compliance with IEC/IS/IEEE standards and utility/client requirements.
• Support during factory acceptance tests (FAT), site installation, and commissioning as needed.
• Interface with vendors and consultants for design approvals.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of HV/EHV substation design principles.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, EPLAN, CYMCAP, or similar design tools.
• Hands-on experience with protection & control schemes.
• Familiarity with national & international standards (IS, IEC, IEEE).
• Good understanding of earthing, lightning, and insulation coordination studies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
