Job Description

Summary: As a Structural Engineering Technician, you will exercise independent judgement to maintain standards and follow policy on tasks of average size or larger assignments. As a team member of a larger project, you will work under the direction of a Technical Lead or Senior Engineer.

You will be responsible to ensure CAD/BIM standards are being followed, ensure all disciplines arecoordinating correctly, conduct model reviews, conduct clash detections and be client facing for design review meetings or presentations.

Responsibilities (included but are not limited to):
  • Responsible for supporting projects of varying complexity/sizes.
  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.
  • Develop foundation plans, framing plans, sections, and details.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Assists in the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Participates in constructability review.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group.

Required qualifications / skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited university with minimum 0-2 years of work experience.
  • Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; Prefer experience with AutoCAD, Component Design Software, Comprehensive Building Analysis Software.

Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with the International Building code and American Building codes including but not limited to ASCE7-16, AISC steel manual, ACI318-14 concrete code, NDS2018 wood code, ADM 2015 aluminum design manual etc.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD (Inventor and SolidWorks a plus).
  • A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following-up.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Entrepreneurial drive to develop and expand existing workflows and client bases.
  • Enjoys conducting research to gather information and identify solutions.
