Role Overview

CE660-level final academic project

Candidates are expected to deliver technically sound designs, verified calculations, and well-documented outputs suitable for academic submission and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural plan PDFs and instructor-provided project requirements
• Develop a complete

  3D structural model in RAM Structural System

  , including:
• Story levels and elevations
• Column grids
• Columns, beams, and girders
• Composite deck systems at floor levels
• Non-composite deck with open-web steel joists at roof level
• Apply and validate all required loads:
• Dead load
• Live load
• Snow load
• Construction load
• Façade line loads
• Run and review:
• RAM Beam
• RAM Column
• Resolve or technically justify all modelling warnings and errors
• Perform

  manual and Excel-based verification calculations

  , including:
• Tributary width determination
• Dead and live load calculations
• Flexure, shear, and deflection checks
• Composite beam and shear stud design
• Comparison of hand calculations with RAM outputs
• Prepare a

  single consolidated engineering report (PDF)

  including:
• Design criteria
• Modelling description
• Sample hand calculations
• Discussion and conclusions
• Appendices with drawings, calculations, and RAM outputs

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in

  RAM Structural System

• Solid understanding of

  steel structure design (gravity systems)

• Experience with composite and non-composite deck systems
• Ability to perform independent hand calculations and verification
• Familiarity with AISC-based design concepts
• Experience preparing structured engineering or academic reports

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

• Exposure to US university coursework or structural projects
• Experience with Excel-based structural calculations
• Prior involvement in academic final projects or consulting support
• Familiarity with RAM Concept or other structural analysis tools
