Structural Design Engineer- Civil

Role Summary

The Structural Design Engineer Civil (Solar) will be responsible for structural design and analysis of solar mounting systems, module structures, foundations, inverter skids, cable trenches, and other civil/structural components of solar power plants (utility-scale, rooftop, and ground-mounted). The role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-optimized design solutions in accordance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyze MMS (Module Mounting Structures) for ground-mounted and rooftop solar projects.
• Perform structural analysis considering wind loads, seismic loads, snow loads, and soil conditions as per IS 875, IS 800, IS 456, NBC, and applicable codes.
• Prepare structural designs for foundations: pile foundations, RCC pedestals, ballasted foundations, micro-piles, etc.
• Check structure stability under extreme climatic conditions for various sites across India.
• Evaluate vendor designs and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, fabrication drawings, and GA drawings for MMS and foundations.
• Develop design calculation reports, structural load analysis reports, and material take-off (MTO/BOQ).
• Review civil layout drawings, trench details, equipment foundation drawings, and boundary wall/fencing civil designs.
• Work closely with electrical design, procurement, and site teams to finalize civil and structural aspects.
• Resolve site-related technical queries by providing engineering support and design clarifications.
• Conduct site visits (as required) to verify soil conditions, assess structural feasibility, and inspect ongoing works.

Software Expertise

• STAAD Pro / SAP2000 / ETABS for structural design and analysis.
• AutoCAD for drawings; knowledge of PVSyst orientation impacts is a plus.
• Experience with solar-specific structure design tools (if any) is an advantage.

Compliance & Quality

• Ensure designs are compliant with IS codes, IEC standards, and relevant MNRE guidelines.
• Follow company quality systems for design documentation, revision control, and approvals.
• Optimize structural designs to reduce steel consumption while ensuring safety.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of RCC, steel structure design, geotechnical understanding, and wind load analysis.
• Ability to interpret electrical layouts, topographical survey reports, and geotechnical investigation reports (GTI).
• Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering
• Diploma- Civil Engineering
• M.Tech in Structural Engineering (preferred).
• 27 years of experience in structural design for solar EPC/IPP projects.
• Experience in utility-scale ground-mounted solar plants, rooftops, or hybrid solar projects is highly desirable.
