Die Shop / Tool Room Qualification: B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Experience: 12–18 Years in Die Shop Management / Forging Dies / Tool Room Software Knowledge: CAD/CAM (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, Power Mill, etc.)
Salary: 1200000 to 1500000 lacs per Anm
ROLE OVERVIEW The DGM (Die Shop) will lead end-to-end forging die design, manufacturing, die maintenance, CAD/CAM/CAE activities, bolster design,
NPD forging development, and process improvements for both in-house and OSP forging. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Die Manufacturing & MaintenanceOversee complete Die Shop operations including die design, manufacturing, repair, and maintenance.Ensure timely availability of dies as per forging and machining schedule.Review and approve die drawings, modifications, tool paths, and machining programs.Manage CNC machines, VMC, EDM/WEDM, lathes, grinders, etc.Evaluate die & tooling condition w.r.t. safety, productivity, and cost.Troubleshoot die failures and implement corrective & preventive actions (RCA, CAPA).Implement strong systems for die tracking, preventive maintenance, and die life enhancement.2. Die Design & SimulationLead forging die design using CAD/CAM/CAE tools.Oversee forging process validation through simulation for regular and NPD parts.Create & approve forging process design, 2D die drawings, die layouts.Standardize best practices for die design, focusing on cost reduction & performance.Stay updated on die technologies and integrate new advancements.3. Bolster Design & ManufacturingEnsure availability and maintenance of press bolsters as per PM schedule.Evaluate bolster health and implement improvements.Design/manage forging pillar sets: trimming, coining, forging sets.4. OSP (Outsourced Forging) Development & ControlProvide technical support to vendors to meet forging specifications.Oversee die & forging process development at supplier end.Validate forging parameters and monitor NPD stages at OSP units.5. Process Optimization & QualityImprove die life via material selection, heat treatment, and design improvements.Ensure adherence to technical drawings, tolerances, GD&T, and quality standards.Drive process improvements through Kaizen, 5S, lean practices, and TPM.Monitor tool consumption and reduce wastage.6. Team LeadershipLead, mentor, and develop a team of machinists, die makers, designers, and supervisors.Plan manpower, allocate workloads, and monitor team performance.Ensure productivity, skill development, and safety compliance.7. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering Lead VA/VE initiatives for die material savings & design improvements. Reduce rework, cycle time, and overall tooling costs. Manage budgets and improve total cost of ownership. REQUIRED SKILLS Strong expertise in forging die design & tool room operations.Deep understanding of GD&T, machining processes, heat treatment, and forging technology.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and leadership skills.Ability to coordinate with Production, NPD, QA, Purchase, and Planning departments.
