Role Objective:

To lead and control CCM section operations to ensure consistent casting quality, equipment reliability, adherence to metallurgical standards, and smooth coordination across shifts for uninterrupted production.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead overall operations of assigned CCM section (shift/strand/machine).
  • Ensure stable casting operations by monitoring key process parameters (tundish, mould, SEN, secondary cooling, withdrawal unit).
  • Execute safe start-up, running, and shutdown procedures of CCM.
  • Manage mould and tundish changeovers, refractory planning, and sequence control.
  • Coordinate with SMS production, mechanical, electrical & quality teams for smooth casting.
  • Analyse casting defects, process deviations, and initiate corrective & preventive actions.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety protocols, and metallurgical quality standards.
  • Lead the shift workforce and ensure proper manpower deployment.
  • Track downtime, log operational issues, and maintain accurate records.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for yield, productivity, and cost optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO (9001, 14001, 45001 & 50001) and integrated management systems.
  • Support OH&S, environmental compliance, and performance improvement goals.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and safe work environment free from any discrimination.

Competencies

  • Technical Expertise:

    CCM equipment, mould & tundish operations, SEN & refractory handling.
  • Process Control:

    Casting parameters, metallurgical flow, defect management.
  • Quality Focus:

    Experience in billet/bloom/slab quality standards and root cause analysis.
  • Safety Compliance:

    LOTO, PPE adherence, safe casting practices.
  • Documentation:

    Shift reporting, defect logs, downtime recording.

Key Skills

  • Strong knowledge of CCM automation, hydraulics, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience in process optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in ERP/SAP systems – Preferred.
  • Understanding of continuous improvement tools (5S, Kaizen).
  • Effective manpower & shift management capability.

Abilities

  • Quick decision-making during critical casting situations.
  • Strong leadership and team handling skills.
  • Analytical mindset for resolving operational and quality issues.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with SMS production and support teams.
  • Adaptability to new technologies and process upgrades.

Knowledge

  • B.Tech / Diploma in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
  • 8–15+ years’ experience in CCM operations in an integrated steel plant.
  • Knowledge of metallurgical behaviour during casting, defect mechanisms, and quality standards.
  • Understanding of refractory, hydraulics, utilities, and automation systems.
  • Certifications: N/A (can be added if required)
