Senior Manager/Manager - SMS Mechanical (Utility Area: Crane, Pump)

Role Objective:

Utility Area (Crane, Pump House)

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the mechanical maintenance activities of

  Utility Area

  including

  EOT Cranes, Pump House, Compressors, Cooling Towers, and related auxiliary equipment

  .
• Ensure

  maximum availability and reliability

  of cranes, pumps, and utility systems through preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
• Develop and implement

  maintenance schedules, checklists, and SOPs

  for utility equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in cranes (hoisting, long travel, cross travel, gearboxes, brakes, hooks, sheaves, etc.) and pump house equipment (centrifugal pumps, vertical turbine pumps, motors, seals, bearings, couplings, etc.).
  
• Monitor performance parameters (vibration, temperature, flow, pressure) and ensure timely corrective actions.
  
• Lead a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians to achieve

  maintenance KPIs (MTTR, MTBF, breakdown reduction, spares cost optimization)

  .
• Ensure adherence to

  safety standards, statutory compliance, and company policies

  in maintenance activities.
• Plan and control spare parts inventory for cranes and utility equipment.
  
• Drive

  improvement projects

  for energy saving, cost reduction, and reliability enhancement.
• Coordinate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams for seamless utility support to SMS production.
  
• Lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for repetitive failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
  

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical expertise in

  mechanical maintenance of heavy-duty cranes (EOT, ladle, billet cranes, etc.)

  and

  industrial pump systems

  .
• Hands-on experience in

  hydraulics, pneumatics, gear drives, bearings, lubrication systems

  .
• Knowledge of

  preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance practices

  .
• Familiarity with

  SAP/ERP systems

  for maintenance planning and reporting.
• Strong

  leadership, team management, and decision-making skills

  .
• Good communication and inter-department coordination ability.
  
• Analytical mindset with a focus on

  continuous improvement and cost control

  .

Qualifications & Experience:

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

  (mandatory).
• 1018 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in

  Steel Plant – SMS Utilities/Crane & Pump House area

  .
• Proven track record of leading utility maintenance teams at managerial level.
