Job
Description
As a Product Design Engineer specializing in Low Voltage Switchgear products, you will be responsible for working on cost-out projects involving Contactors, Switch Disconnectors, Motor Protection Circuit Breakers, and Push Buttons. Your role will involve collaborating with global stakeholders to execute projects from idea generation to design, testing, and implementation phases. It will be essential to ensure that the products comply with global design standards such as IEC, UL, CSA, NEMA, or any other relevant standards. You will be expected to handle system and component sizing, design, simulation, and testing activities to meet the requirements of Low Voltage Switchgear. Additionally, modifying existing products to align with customer needs, manufacturing processes, regulatory standards, and market demands will be part of your responsibilities through the Change Management process. To excel in this role, you should have prior experience in Cost-out/VAVE projects related to Contactors, Switch Disconnectors, Breakers, or similar products. Proficiency in current path design, mechanism design, and arc quenching principles will be necessary. Knowledge of plastic materials, their properties, and usage, along with familiarity with GD&T principles and clearance & creepage calculations, will be advantageous. Your expertise should extend to different manufacturing processes relevant to contacts and plastic materials, including bending, riveting, welding, brazing, and injection molding. Understanding low voltage switchgear standards per IEC/UL/CSA/CCC codes is crucial for developing test plans and executing tests for EN60947/UL60947. As part of your responsibilities, you will need to assess test results, conduct root cause analysis based on test findings, and implement corrective or preventive actions. Design engineering analysis on various components such as current path, mechanism, springs, bimetals, housings, actuator circuits, arc chambers, coils, among others, will be integral to your role. A strong grasp of reliability predictions, familiarity with Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and the ability to interpret structural, thermal, CFD, and MBD results will be expected. Proficiency in creating designs through 2D drawings and 3D models using tools like UG-NX or SolidWorks is essential. Knowledge of PLM systems like Enovia and SAP will be considered desirable, showcasing your innovation mindset. In terms of qualifications, a BE/M.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering coupled with 6-9 years of experience in Product Design will be necessary. Your skillset should include expertise in cost-out projects for Low Voltage Switchgear products, experience in the switchgear industry, particularly in NTI/NPI/Sustaining projects, and proficiency in VAVE projects. Being a team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in global and virtual environments will be key to success in this role.,
