Role Overview:

SQL Database Engineer

The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in preparing, upgrading, validating, and securing Microsoft SQL Server instances in accordance with best practice standards, governance, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the

  Lead DBA

  in planning and delivering

  SQL Server version upgrades

  across multiple environments (e.g., Dev, Test, Prod).
• Review and document existing SQL Server configurations and assess upgrade readiness.
• Perform

  SQL Server installations, in-place and side-by-side upgrades

  , and post-upgrade validation.
• Work collaboratively to apply

  CIS Level 1 and Level 2 benchmark settings

  for SQL Server, including:
• Authentication and access controls
• Logging and audit policies
• Encryption and secure configurations
• Conduct

  configuration baselining

  , and assist with remediation of non-compliant settings.
• Create and maintain

  PowerShell or T-SQL scripts

  for automation of CIS controls and security checks.
• Participate in

  vulnerability assessments

  and support remediation efforts.
• Document upgrade processes, configurations, hardening checklists, and rollback plans.
• Support database tuning, performance validation, and troubleshooting activities post-upgrade.
• Collaborate with security teams to ensure all implementations align with corporate standards and audit expectations.
• Provide ongoing operational support during and after the transition.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• 3+ years of experience as a

  SQL Server Database Engineer / Administrator

  in enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of

  SQL Server architecture, deployment, and upgrade techniques

  .
• Experience in

  applying security configurations

  , particularly aligned to CIS benchmarks or similar (DISA STIG, NIST, etc.).
• Proficient in

  T-SQL scripting, PowerShell

  , and backup/restore strategies.
• Familiarity with

  SQL Server tools

  : SSMS, SQL Profiler, Database Tuning Advisor, etc.
• Understanding of

  high availability (HA)

  and

  disaster recovery (DR)

  features (e.g., Always On, Log Shipping, Clustering).
• Working knowledge of

  Windows Server hardening

  as it pertains to SQL deployments.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Microsoft certifications:

  MCSA: SQL Server

  ,

  Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

  , or equivalent.
• Experience with

  SQL Server 2016/2019/2022

  and migration to newer supported versions.
• Exposure to

  third-party security scanning tools

  (e.g., Nessus, Qualys) in a database context.
• Familiarity with

  ITIL processes

  and enterprise change control.
