Job Summary:
We are seeking an
Innovative
R&D Engineer
specializing in
Design for Additive Manufacturing
to join our Steam Turbine technology Research and Development team. The candidate shall be responsible for driving the development and optimization of component designs specifically for additive manufacturing (AM) processes. The role ensures that products are not only functional and efficient but also manufacturable with AM technologies, balancing performance, cost, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate functional product requirements into designs optimized for additive manufacturing (DfAM).
- Apply AM-specific design principles such as topology optimization, lattice structures, and weight reduction.
- Establishing Design / Printing / Component Qualification / Testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Management, Design, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality) to integrate AM into product lifecycle.
- Validate designs through simulation (e.g., FEA, thermal, fluid flow) and rapid prototyping.
- Work with manufacturing engineers to define build orientation, support strategies, and post-processing needs.
- Document design guidelines and establish best practices for AM integration into standard workflows.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field from any Govt. Engineering college) with CGPA > 8.0
- Proven track record of establishing product components using Laser / VAAM technologies.
- Proven experience in Additive Manufacturing (metal or polymer), preferably in an industrial/R&D setting.
- Strong knowledge of DfAM principles, CAD (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks, CATIA), and topology optimization tools (e.g., Ansys, Altair Inspire).
- Familiarity with AM processes such as SLM, EBM, DMLS, Binder Jetting, or FDM.
- Understanding of material behavior in AM (metals, polymers, composites).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of standards (ASTM, ISO) and qualification procedures for AM parts (desirable).
