Solutions Architect - Video Playback

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solution Architect to lead the architecture and design of Android-based Set-Top Box (STB) solutions, with a specialized focus on video playback, CDN integration, and headend systems. This role involves collaborating across teams to ensure robust end-to-end video delivery, optimizing playback experience, and ensuring seamless integration with distribution and ingest systems.

Key Responsibilities

· Architect and design scalable, high-performance Android STB solutions, focusing on video playback and delivery pipeline.

· Define the system architecture for integrating playback modules, DRM, codecs, adaptive bitrate streaming (ABR), and buffer management.

· Collaborate with CDN partners and internal networking teams to optimize content delivery strategies (multicast, unicast, caching, etc.).

· Work closely with headend engineering teams to define ingestion formats, transport stream handling (DVB, HLS, MPEG-DASH), and metadata workflows (EPG, PSI/SI).

· Lead architectural reviews, provide design guidelines, and mentor engineering teams.

· Stay updated with industry trends in broadcast, OTT, hybrid delivery models, and Android TV evolution.

· Define and implement QoE (Quality of Experience) metrics, logging, and performance optimization strategies.

· Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to align technical direction with business objectives.

Required Qualifications

· 12+ years of experience in video engineering, with at least 3–5 years in an architect role.

· Strong background in Android TV or AOSP-based STB architecture and development.

· Deep expertise in video playback technologies (ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, Widevine DRM, etc.).

· Experience with CDN integration, ABR (HLS, DASH), and low-latency streaming protocols.

· Strong understanding of headend technologies including DVB, IPTV, multiplexing, transcoding, PSI/SI tables, CAS/DRM workflows.

· Proven experience in designing systems with high availability, low latency, and scalability.

· Proficient in networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, RTP/RTSP, multicast), and CDN edge behaviors.

· Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience working with broadcast + OTT hybrid systems.

· Familiarity with cloud-based video processing (e.g., AWS Media Services, Azure Media).

· Prior experience with STB certification processes (Google ATV, operator-tier launch, etc.).

· Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and monitoring tools tailored for video delivery (e.g., QoS tools, Prometheus, Grafana).
