Role Description
DepartmentThe Department of Environment & Geography conducts interdisciplinary research in environmental science, geography, ecology, and economics with a strong focus on impact. Our work supports commitments to green and clean living and promotes the wellbeing of people and communities. We strive to provide equality and justice for all through our research initiatives.The Botstiber Institute for Wildlife Fertility Control (BIWFC) was established in 2016, with the main aim to provide science-based information about the use of fertility control to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and to promote coexistence worldwide. The Europe office was established in 2021, based at the University of York in the Department of Environment & Geography, in recognition that human-wildlife interactions are quickly growing in this region more than elsewhere.RoleAs the work of the Europe office expands, the main role of the Social Media and Event Coordinator will be to contribute to fulfil the general mission of the Institute by raising awareness about wildlife fertility control through stakeholders’ engagement with particular focus on the organisation of the 10th International Conference on Wildlife Fertility Control. Working with the BIWFC headquarters (HQ) the role will update mailing lists and information materials and play an active role in the organisation of conferences, webinars and workshops, and public education programs.Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Work with BIWFC staff to update and expand mailing list, occasionally liaising with the University of York Press Officer to produce promotional materials
  • In coordination with the BIWFC HQ, play an active role in coordinating the Institute’s European programme, such as conferences, workshops, webinars, and public education programmes with particular focus on the 10th International Conference on Wildlife Fertility Control
  • Identify opportunities for engaging stakeholders by expanding the Institute’s network and by using a range of social media and digital technologies
  • To attend Thursday’s 1-hour meetings every fortnight with BIWFC and with the Europe Director Responsible for expanding the BIWFC network, identifying potential participants to the 10th International Conference on Wildlife Fertility Control and webinar speakers, for expanding the BIWFC World Map of projects and for identifying external conferences and events in Europe for BIWFC participation.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize social media professionally for communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proven ability of engaging with a wide spectrum of stakeholders
  • A track record of organising national or international conferences or similar large scale events
