Shopify Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Shopify Engineer to join our growing commerce consultancy.This role is perfect for a theme development expert who lives and breathes the Shopifyecosystem. You will be responsible for building high-performance, visually stunning storefrontswhile serving as a platform specialist who understands the "why" behind technical constraints.

Role Overview

As a Shopify Engineer, you will lead the frontend execution of our client projects. You aren''''t justSa coder; you are a platform expert. You will build custom themes using Online Store 2.0standards, optimize for performance, and proactively identify when a business requirementnecessitates a custom app or complex integration. You will work independently on complexfeatures while collaborating with our Senior Engineers to ensure seamless end-to-end solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Theme Architecture: Develop and maintain complex Shopify themes from scratch or
  

via "Dawn" based frameworks, ensuring full compatibility with Online Store 2.0 (JSON
templates, sections, and blocks).

• Custom Feature Development: Create highly flexible, schema-driven custom sections
  

that allow merchants to manage content without touching code.

• Performance Engineering: Utilize the Liquid profiler and modern frontend techniques to
  

ensure lightning-fast load times and high Core Web Vitals scores.

• Platform Problem Solving: Act as a first responder for technical challenges. You
  

should be able to diagnose whether a bug is a Liquid limitation, an app conflict, or a
backend issue requiring senior intervention.

• Integrations & Tooling: Work with Shopify CLI and Git-based workflows to manage
  

deployments and collaborate within a professional development lifecycle.

• Merchant Success: Translate design mockups (Figma) into pixel-perfect, responsive
  

reality while advising on the best "Shopify-native" way to implement features.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of professional experience specializing in Shopify theme development.
• Liquid Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Liquid templating, including complex logic,
  

metafields/metaobjects, and performance optimization.

• Frontend Fundamentals: Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 (including utility-first
  

frameworks like Tailwind), and modern JavaScript (ES6+).

• Online Store 2.0: Proven experience implementing JSON templates, sections
  

everywhere, and app blocks.

• API Awareness: Working knowledge of the Shopify AJAX API for cart interactions and
  

search.

Version Control:

Comfortable using Git for team-based development and code reviews.

Technical Strategy & Platform Insights

Ability to evaluate a problem statement and determine if it can be solved within thetheme layer or if it requires Shopify Functions, Flow, or a custom app.Deep understanding of the Shopify Admin, including navigation, product modeling, andtheme settings.

Soft Skills

• Consultative Mindset: Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Independent Ownership: Capable of taking a feature from a Figma file to a live
  

environment with minimal supervision.

• Growth Orientation: Eagerness to learn the "Senior" side of the platform (APIs,
  

Backend) through mentorship and project variety.
