Overview:

Senior Power BI (Cognos Power BI Migration | Snowflake)

Were hiring a Senior Power BI Lead to spearhead our enterprise Cognos-to Power BI migration on a modern Snowflake data platform. You'll shape our semantic modeling strategy, lead a small BI development team, and deliver high-impact dashboards used across the organization.

What You'll Do

• Lead the full Cognos Power BI migration (requirements, modeling, development, validation).
• Build high-performance semantic models (star schema, surrogate/date keys, aggregations).
• Translate Cognos FM/MDX logic into Power BI models and DAX.
• Drive performance optimization (incremental refresh, aggregations, large models).
• Establish and enforce Power BI standards, governance, and documentation.
• Mentor junior BI developers and review deliverables.
• Maintain a technical decision log and ensure stakeholder alignment.

What You Bring

• Expert Power BI: data modeling, DAX, Power Query, performance tuning.
• Strong experience interpreting Cognos models/reports for migration.
• Advanced SQL and hands-on work with Snowflake.
• Strong grounding in star schema design and BI modeling best practices.
• Experience with governance (RLS, documentation, deployment pipelines).
• Proven leadership and clear communication with technical + business teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Fabric, or similar ETL tools.
• Certifications: PL-300, PL-400, SnowPro.
• Scripting/automation experience (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
• Prior experience leading Power BI migration programs.

Education & Experience

• Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science, Data, or related field.
• 7+ years in BI/Analytics, including 3+ years focused on Power BI.
• Experience with Cognos migrations + Snowflake strongly preferred.

Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)

• Deliver a validated Cognos Power BI migration for a key report set.
• Establish a reusable semantic modeling framework.
• Implement review + documentation processes.
• Level up junior BI developers and improve delivery efficiency.
