Bharat Atomic is building India's first high-end Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscope.

We're assembling hands-on engineers across vacuum, mechatronics, electrical, optics, and software. We'll own the stack from electron source to final image.

We've already started assembling a prototype low-cost SEM, and we're scaling up to a high-performance Schottky field-emission system.

Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Vacuum Specialization)

You will design, iterate on, and build the mechanical and vacuum hardware of our SEM. This includes UHV chambers, flanges, interfaces, tolerances, alignment, thermal, and materials work. You'll integrate your designs with optics, detectors, motion systems, and electronics.

This is an in-person hands-on-role: concept -> CAD -> machining -> cleaning -> bake-out -> assembly -> validation. Your philosophy should match ours: fabricate, measure, analyze, iterate. The goal is high-quality hardware that pushes performance boundaries - not months-long cycles waiting on vendors.

Responsibilities

• Design UHV/HV chambers, flanges, supports, interfaces
• Define pressure budgets, select pumps, and conductance paths
• Specify materials, finishes, seals, feedthroughs
• Own CAD, drawings, tolerances, and manufacturability
• Rapidly prototype and machine components
• Lead bake-out, cleaning, contamination control, cleanroom assembly
• Integrate mechanical, optical, and electronic subsystems
• Debug issues during bring-up and drive rapid iteration

Required Experience

• 7+ years in precision mechanical or vacuum system design
• Hands-on machining, assembly, cleaning, and testing of hardware
• Deep understanding of UHV/HV design, sealing, materials, tolerances
• Experience with analytical instruments, optics, precision stages
• Ability to integrate across mechanical, electrical, and opto-mechanical domains

Nice to Have

• Master's PhD or equivalent deep experience
• Basic circuit design or coding for hardware control
• Experience taking hardware from R&D to production-ready systems
