Job Title: Deputy General Manager /Sr Manager

Job Summary:

The role involves leading and managing the Environment and Safety Program, including strategic decision-making, audit preparation, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include trend analysis of incidents, risk assessments (qualitative and quantitative), accident investigation, and government liaison for statutory approvals (KSPCB, CPCB, MOEF, etc.). The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills, and be fluent in English. Key tasks include the development and implementation of EHS policies, contractor safety management, emergency preparedness (including mock drills), ergonomics, industrial hygiene, training, and continuous improvement using Six Sigma techniques. The role also includes maintaining compliance with hazardous process rules, conducting inspections, advising on PPE, and fostering a safety culture through committees, campaigns, and employee engagement programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in operational decision-making process and management of the Environment and Safety Program.
  • Preparation for the Customer audit and on time closure of audit observation points.
  • Ontime completion of work and submission of Reports weekly/monthly to leadership team
  • Carry out Trend analysis of Accidents/audit findings and summarise the report.
  • Should have decision making capacity including subject expertise.
  • Should require Leadership Quality and fluent in English and presentation skill.
  • Work with Customer in meeting EHS Compliance and Audit requirements.
  • Should know the process of compliance as per the Statutory. CPCB, HW, PW, MSIHC, Petroleum Rules.
  • Implementation of IH and Ergonomics related Hazards and Risk with NBC rules and its compliance
  • Knowledge of Qualitative, Quantitative Risk Assessment &
  • Compliance to Hazardous Process and establish Medical Surveillance Programs
  • Implementation of Contactor Health and Safety Program & execution of all High-Risk Activities
  • Preparation of On site Emergency Plan and conducting mock drills and submission of report to Management.
  • Independent Handling of Govt Approvals, KSPCB, Factory Department and Environment Clearance MOEF.
  • Develop policy/ procedures and assign responsibilities to concern team members/ approve Environment and safety policies and procedures
  • Participate on the Environment and safety program improvement team(s) as a technical consultant.
  • Assist site leadership in developing/improving employee and management skills to execute their responsibilities in the Environment and safety program.
  • Conduct site inspections and program evaluations.
  • Assist with the evaluation and selection of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain injury and illness records or verify accuracy of these records if they are maintained by others.
  • Evaluate new process, chemicals and equipment prior to their purchase/ use at the ACPPL unit Hubballi.
  • Review accident reports and follow-up action plans. Participate in accident investigations, as appropriate.
  • Analyse injury and illness trends using Six Sigma techniques, and periodically review these trends with management. Recommend annual goals to management based on the identified trends.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) Program.
  • Define employee-training needs and select training tools. Deliver training or verify delivery of training by qualified individuals.
  • Implement programs for the recognition, evaluation, and control of physical and chemical hazards.
  • Advise the purchase and stores departments in ensuring high quality and availability of personal protective equipment.
  • Provide advice on matters related to carrying out plant safety inspections.
  • Carry out plant safety inspections to observe the physical conditions or work and the work practices and procedures followed by workers and to render advice on measures to be adopted for removing the unsafe physical conditions and preventing unsafe action by workers.
  • Investigate the cases of industrial diseases contacted and dangerous occurrences.
  • Advise on the maintenance of such records as are necessary relating to accidents, dangerous occurrences and industrial diseases.
  • Promote setting up of Safety Committees and act as adviser and catalyst to such committees.
  • Organize in association with the concerned departments, campaigns, competitions, contests and other activities which will develop and maintain the interest of the workers in establishing and maintaining safe conditions of work and procedure.

Qualifications:

  • Full time safety graduate from a recognized institute with an Engineering Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical/civil/electrical/chemical engineering with working experience in Chemical Industry.
  • preferably additional qualification of Environmental Science, Having operational knowledge of ETP (Effluent treatment Plant) and environmental compliances

  • Advise and assist the Factory Management in the fulfilment of its obligations, statutory or otherwise, concerning prevention of personal injuries and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Design and conducting either independently or in collaboration with the training department, suitable training and educational programmes for the prevention of personal injuries.
  • Advise on safety aspects in all job studies and to carry out detailed job safety studies of selected jobs.
  • Check and evaluate, the effectiveness of the action taken or proposed to be taken to prevent personal injuries.
  • Establish proactive Environment and safety programs for accident and injury prevention (e.g., ergonomics).
