The Commercial Data Office (CoDO) team, within Global Commercial Services (GCS), is focused on powering the best customer experience and driving value through data. With continuous changes in the regulatory environment and data innovation, CoDO plays a key role in supporting GCS sustainable growth balanced with controls and risk management.
How will you make an impact in this role
As the Senior Manager of the Commercial Data Risk Management team, you will be responsible for working with the American Express Enterprise Data Office, GCS Control Management, business teams, technology teams, and product/platform teams to execute the Enterprise Data Governance and Risk Management policies and standards for the GCS business, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of our data assets. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to implement robust data management frameworks, managed and monitor data usability and confidentiality risks, and comply with regulatory requirements on behalf of GCS. We re looking for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, operates cross-functionally (both with business and technology stakeholders), and maintains a positive attitude and sense of humor in the face of challenges. Identify potential data risks across systems, processes, and third parties.

Conduct risk assessments to evaluate data usability and data confidentiality risks.

Develop and implement data risk controls aligned with internal policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Collaborate with GCS Control Management, Technology, Business Process Owners, product Owners to embed controls in data-related processes.

Support the adoption and execution of enterprise data risk management frameworks and standards.

Monitor risk indicators and control effectiveness using metrics and dashboards.

Provide regular risk updates, analysis, and recommendations to GCS Leadership and Enterprise Data Office.

Support investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action plans of data incidents or breaches.

Promote data risk awareness across Business Unit.

Collaborate across other CoDO Data Governance and Quality teams to ensure cohesive programs and scalable solutions for the business
Minimum Qualifications
-
5+ years of direct work experience in risk management, data governance or a similar role within financial services or banking industry.

Proven track record of understanding business challenges and strategies and connecting those to data risk.

Project management experience, with partners across a diverse, global set of business and technology teams.

Demonstrable experience of driving meaningful improvements in business value through data management.

Ability to work with white space to craft and implement solutions to tackle sophisticated challenges.

Strong communication skills, both in terms of preparing and delivering a strategic vision and updates to large groups and senior leaders

Ability to put enterprise thinking first, connect the role s agenda to enterprise priorities and balance the needs of customers, partners, colleagues & shareholders.

Working knowledge of GCS data sources and systems, with hands-on experience solving data and process related problems, is a plus
