Description
As a Technical Owner at Lifesight, you will be responsible for leading the development of one product at a time from zero to MVP in a matter of weeks. Your role will involve architecting and building end-to-end applications, integrating and evaluating AI models, designing system instructions and tool-calling, and establishing solid engineering foundations for quality, scalability, security, and observability in production. Your collaboration with a PM, marketer, ops lead, and mentoring a junior engineer will be crucial in driving the success of the product. **Key Responsibilities:** - Translate problem statements into architectures and implementation plans, delivering functional MVPs within a few weeks. - Develop end-to-end features across frontend, backend, data, and AI orchestration, ensuring code quality and reviews. - Utilize the latest AI coding stacks and technologies to accelerate app development and establish best practices for SaaS business apps. - Create production-ready APIs, build agentic systems, automate background jobs, and integrate with third-party services. **AI/LLM Engineering:** - Design prompts and system instructions, implement function/tool calling, and multi-step reasoning flows. - Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) data pipelines, embeddings, vector indexes, and context strategies. - Evaluate and compare models based on latency, quality, and cost, implementing evaluation harnesses and feedback improvement loops. - Instrument and monitor AI behavior such as response quality signals, hallucination detection, and safety filters. **Architecture & Ops:** - Implement pragmatic, modern patterns with clear boundaries and failure handling, emphasizing serverless where possible. - Establish CI/CD, IaC, runtime observability, and cost controls for efficient operations. - Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance best practices are followed from the outset. **Quality, Safety & Reliability:** - Set up automated testing, including AI-aware tests and red-team suites. - Define SLIs/SLOs for availability and latency, implementing graceful degradation and fallback mechanisms. **Collaboration & Leadership:** - Collaborate closely with the PM to shape scope, manage trade-offs, and mitigate risks. - Mentor a junior engineer, create tech documentation, and conduct design reviews. - Contribute to the development of reusable components, templates, and playbooks within the studio. **Qualifications Required:** - 4+ years of experience in building production software, with 3+ years in modern web stacks. - 1+ years of experience in AI products, including end-to-end product shipments. - Proficiency in Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python. - Hands-on experience with integrating LLMs, designing prompts/system instructions, and implementing function/tool calling. - Experience in building RAG systems and familiarity with cloud-native deployment, CI/CD, IaC, and production observability. - Strong product sense, collaboration skills, and written communication abilities. **Nice To Have:** - Prior startup or venture studio experience with a comfort level in ambiguity and rapid iteration. - Exposure to fine-tuning, model distillation, or on-device inference for mobile applications. - Familiarity with analytics/events pipelines, A/B testing, and feature flags. - Background in security practices such as secrets management, authN/Z patterns, and data governance.
