Senior Engineer - DBA

Role Overview

The Senior Engineer DBA will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization of enterprise databases. This role requires ensuring database security, availability, backup/recovery, and supporting application development teams with database design and query optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Maintenance

• Install, configure, and maintain relational and/or NoSQL databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
• Monitor and optimize database performance, including indexing, query tuning, and capacity planning.
• Implement and manage backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery solutions.
• Ensure high availability, replication, and clustering configurations.

Security & Compliance

• Manage user access controls, authentication, and encryption to safeguard data.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and data protection laws (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
• Conduct periodic security audits and patch management.

Support & Collaboration

• Collaborate with application developers to design efficient database schemas.
• Provide database support for application releases, migrations, and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot database-related incidents, root cause analysis, and performance issues.

Documentation & Process Improvement

• Maintain detailed documentation for database architecture, configurations, and procedures.
• Propose and implement improvements in database processes and automation.
• Stay updated on emerging database technologies and best practices.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong proficiency in at least one enterprise RDBMS and familiarity with others.
• Expertise in SQL scripting, stored procedures, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) setups.
• Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
