Position: Section Head – OHC

Skills and Qualifications: A medical degree MBBS and postgraduate qualification in occupational medicine. AFIH is mandatory Knowledge of employment and anti-discrimination legislation, environmental and health and safety law. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Emotional resilience and the ability to work effectively in a team. Experience working in a production or industrial environment is often desirable.

Key Responsibilities

:Diagnosis and Treatment:Identifying, diagnosing, and treating work-related injuries and illnesses. Fitness-for-Work Evaluations:Assessing employees' fitness to perform their job duties, including pre-employment and periodic health evaluations. Health Surveillance Programs:Implementing and maintaining health surveillance programs, particularly for workers exposed to hazardous substances. Workplace Health and Safety Programs:Developing, implementing, and managing workplace health and safety programs, including health risk assessments and workplace inspections. Advisory Role:Providing expert advice on workplace hazards, ergonomic improvements, and compliance with relevant health and safety regulations. Record Keeping:Maintaining detailed employee health records and other relevant documentation. Training and Education:Conducting training sessions on workplace health and safety practices. Collaboration:Working closely with other healthcare professionals, safety officers, and management to ensure a healthy and safe work environment. Specific duties might include:Conducting medical evaluations, including physical examinations, hearing tests (audiometry), and lung function tests (spirometry). Recommending and managing treatment plans for work-related injuries and illnesses. Advising on the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Investigating the causes of work-related illnesses and proposing preventative measures. Issuing certificates of suitability for work tasks. Reviewing complex cases, such as those involving ill-health retirement or disability discrimination. Staying up-to-date on relevant legislation and best practices in occupational health and safety.
