Samvidhaan Fellowship Manager - Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy
Nyaaya is an open-access, digital resource that provides simple, actionable, reliable, and accessible legal information to Indian citizens. We want to enable access to information about the law in multiple Indian languages so that citizens can access justice irrespective of their background.
Description of position
As Nyaaya s Samvidhaan Fellowship Manager, you will be at the forefront of our mission of enabling access to justice to the last mile, and to empower citizens with relevant legal knowledge in Hindi and Marathi This role is designed for a professional who is committed to advancing legal empowerment and social justice, and who can strengthen the connection between communities and the law. Candidates from Maharashtra or with strong familiarity with its socio-political context are preferred.
Responsibilities
As the Samvidhaan Fellow, your responsibilities will include the following:
- Identify and engage partner organizations working on issues of women and children, establish collaborations, and manage relationships with lawyers and community stakeholders;
- Run fellow recruitment and application processes, oversee selection, and ensure smooth onboarding of selected fellows;
- Conduct weekly check-ins with fellows to track progress and provide guidance;
- Support Samvidhaan Fellows in designing and implementing legal awareness and community engagement initiatives;
- Strengthen collaborations with civil society organizations, local institutions, and community networks to expand the reach of legal education programs;
- Oversee workshops, campaigns, and field-level initiatives that improve citizens understanding of their rights and responsibilities;
- Provide guidance to fellows to align interventions with social justice principles and relevant laws;
- Track fellowship activities, capture learnings, and refine programs for greater effectiveness;
- Oversee the dissemination of Nyaaya s legal content, ensuring it reaches target communities effectively;
- Review and adapt legal content in Hindi and Marathi to ensure clarity, accessibility, and cultural relevance; and
- Spend time on the field as and when required with fellows for research, advocacy and coordination.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in either practicing or teaching law or working in a socio-legal organisation.
- You must possess exceptional proficiency in the Hindi language, both written and verbal. Strong preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Marathi.
- Strong leadership abilities are essential for effectively guiding and collaborating with our diverse team of lawyers. You should exhibit a proactive approach in leading and motivating team members to achieve common goals.
- The role involves close interaction with multiple state and NGO partners and government stakeholders like the District Legal Services Authority etc. Your capacity to establish and maintain productive relationships with these stakeholders will be crucial in ensuring the seamless execution of Nyaaya Hindi s goals and objectives.
- Experience of working on issues related to access to justice at the grassroots.
- Prior experience in research and advocacy on socio-legal issues.
Desired
- Strong familiarity with Maharashtra s socio-cultural and legal context, ideally with prior experience living in the state.
- Ability to create engaging, accessible video content in Hindi for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and digital outreach strategies to effectively disseminate legal content.
- Experience in legal research and content writing in Hindi is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage community-level engagement initiatives.
- Willingness and comfort in traveling to grassroots and remote locations to support field interventions.
- Ability to understand grassroots governance and policy issues and link them to state level policy issues.
