Safety Officer – Thermal Power Plant O&M

Job Description

Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Reporting To: HSE Manager / Plant Head Job Summary: We are looking for a proactive and experienced Safety Officer to oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance at our thermal power plant in Vijayawada. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in HSE functions related to Operations & Maintenance (O&M) in thermal power plants and must possess a valid safety certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent. Key Responsibilities: Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, policies, and procedures across the plant operations. Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments at all operational areas. Implement and maintain Permit to Work (PTW) systems and monitor critical activities such as confined space entry, hot work, and working at height. Organize and conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and induction programs for employees, contractors, and visitors. Lead and investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, and ensure timely reporting and implementation of corrective actions. Monitor and ensure the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe working practices. Maintain records related to safety checklists, training logs, incident reports, and statutory documentation. Liaise with local authorities and statutory bodies to ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met. Promote a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. Support emergency preparedness drills and maintain emergency response plans. Desired Profile: Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline. Valid safety certification such as NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, or equivalent is mandatory. Minimum 5 years of safety experience in a thermal power plant (O&M environment). In-depth knowledge of industrial safety standards and statutory regulations specific to thermal power plants. Hands-on experience in managing O&M-related safety risks including mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence safety behavior across departments and teams. Incident investigation and root cause analysis skills. Competence in conducting training programs and preparing safety reports. Good understanding of ISO 45001:2018 or OHSAS 18001 systems (preferred).
