Safety Officer

Job Summary: We are hiring a Safety Officer with a minimum of 3 years of experience to oversee health and safety operations at our Steel Godown Yard in Cheranalloor . The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and promoting best practices in handling and storing steel materials. Key Responsibilities: Monitor yard activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols during material handling, loading/unloading, and storage. Conduct daily safety inspections of forklifts, cranes, storage areas, and lifting equipment. Enforce the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among all staff and visitors. Identify workplace hazards and implement corrective actions to minimize risk. Conduct toolbox talks and safety training for workers and forklift/crane operators. Investigate and report all incidents, accidents, and near-misses with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Maintain safety-related records, incident logs, and inspection reports. Ensure proper signage, markings, and traffic flow are maintained in the yard. Conduct emergency drills (fire, evacuation) and ensure emergency equipment is in working condition. Coordinate with government safety inspectors and ensure compliance with statutory safety norms. Qualifications and Skills: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in an industrial, warehouse, or yard environment (preferably steel or heavy materials). Safety certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar are strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of Indian safety regulations (Factories Act, BOCW, etc.). Good communication skills. Ability to manage ground staff and enforce compliance under pressure. Familiarity with material handling practices and heavy equipment operations. Working Conditions: Work environment includes outdoor yard and semi-enclosed warehouse spaces. Exposure to steel products, machinery, dust, and heat. Use of PPE is mandatory at all operational zones. May require occasional weekend shifts or extended hours during peak activity.
