Job Description

Role: Robotics Software Engineer.

To develop, integrate, and validate autonomy, navigation, and control systems for Autonomous Hydrographic Survey Craft (AHSC) and underwater robotic platforms

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize autonomy and control architectures for surface and underwater vehicles, including waypoint tracking, path planning, and adaptive mission execution.
  • Implement state estimation and sensor fusion frameworks (EKF/UKF) integrating DVL, IMU, GPS, and vision data to ensure accurate navigation under dynamic marine conditions.
  • Design and validate low-level control loops (PID, LQR, MPC) for underactuated vehicles using ROS/ROS2 and MATLABSimulink environments.
  • Build and maintain simulation environments in ROSGazebo for validation of GNC algorithms under environmental uncertainty.
  • Integrate mission software with embedded computing platforms (NVIDIA Jetson, STM32, Raspberry Pi) and onboard communication buses (CAN, UART, Ethernet).
  • Contribute to the development of reactive obstacle avoidance and path planning strategies using sonar and LiDAR data.
  • Conduct real-world testing, tuning, and analysis of ASV/AUV prototypes; support data acquisition using MBES/SBES for bathymetric missions.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, and naval architects) for seamless software-hardware integration and field readiness.
  • Maintain source control and CI/CD pipelines (Git, GitHub Actions) ensuring traceable and modular code development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with marine autonomous systems, such as USVs or AUVs.
  • Knowledge of maritime navigation protocols (e.g., NMEA 2000, AIS) and marine environment modelling.
  • Hands-on experience with field deployment, telemetry, and remote debugging of unmanned systems.
  • Exposure to machine learning, anomaly detection, or adaptive control techniques in robotics.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical software design, fault tolerance, and redundancy

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience developing software for robotics or autonomous vehicles (marine, ground, or aerial).
  • Proficient in robotics frameworks (e.g., ROS/ROS2, MOOS-IvP) and real-time system development.
  • Solid understanding of robotics algorithms: SLAM, path planning (A*, RRT), control theory, and sensor processing.
  • Experience with Linux-based systems, real-time communication protocols, and multi-threaded programming.
  • Familiarity with simulation and testing environments for autonomous systems
