Job Description

A Regional Head for Small Business Banking is responsible for driving the business development and growth of the SME working capital loan portfolio across a specific region. Key responsibilities include strategic leadership, team management, business development, portfolio management, relationship management, and risk and compliance management.

Role & responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership & business development:

    • Developing and implementing business strategies to achieve sales targets for working capital, term loans, and other SME products.
    • Identifying new business development opportunities and launching new products in the market.
    • Expanding market reach through strategic partnerships, expos, events, and other activities.

  • Team management:

    • Leading, managing, and mentoring a team of sales and relationship managers to ensure high productivity and employee satisfaction.
    • Conducting sales meetings, setting individual targets, and providing regular training to the team.
    • Ensuring the team provides excellent customer service.
  • Portfolio management:

    • Monitoring the performance of the SME loan portfolio and identifying early warning signals.
    • Ensuring portfolio hygiene and achieving business targets for assets and revenue.
  • Relationship management:

    • Building and deepening relationships with existing SME clients to increase their business with the bank.
    • Forging strong partnerships with bank branches, channel partners (like DSAs), and institutional lenders.
  • Risk and compliance management:

    • Ensuring all lending activities comply with bank guidelines and regulatory norms.
    • Coordinating with internal risk and credit teams to ensure smooth process flows.
    • Preventing fraudulent or risky proposals from entering the system.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Experience:

    A proven track record in managing SME banking and working capital portfolios, with a background in finance or sales preferred.
  • Leadership and people management:

    Strong skills in leading and mentoring a large, geographically spread team.
  • Knowledge:

    Strong understanding of banking and financial products, credit underwriting, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communication:

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Other skills:

    Strong sales orientation, negotiation skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex client situations
