, a New Delhi-based non-profit institution, is currently seeking to recruit a
Programme Officer
for its Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy (SWMCI) Programme.CSE is one of India's leading public interest research institutes. It is known for its rigorous research and advocacy on environmental and sustainable development issues.
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME OF CSE
The SWMCI programme at CSE addresses policy and practices for effective and affordable waste management in India and other developing countries. The programme works with national governments to bring policies that support sustainable solid waste management including plastics and other waste streams. The programme works with urban local governments, state and UT authorities, civil societies, private sector, academia, and other technical organizations in the broader domain of solid waste management and circular economy both in India and Sub-Saharan Africa to build a sustainable ecosystem of solid waste management aligned with the principle of circular economy. One of the priorities of CSEs intervention revolves around reducing marine litter from land-based mismanagement of solid waste, coastal tourism, maritime activities, and lost or discarded fishing gears by the fishing communities. The nature of the work of the team is extremely dynamic and includes research, capacity building, technical support, and need-based implementation support.
WORK PROFILE
The candidate will be required to substantially contribute to the teams research, advocacy, and implementation work. Major work responsibilities include:
- Managing and monitoring implementation of projects in states and cities.
- Preparing reports (both with and without technical inputs), policy briefs, etc.
- Reviewing policy, rules, and regulations for developing research papers.
- Extensive research/Writing on issues/development related to waste management.
- Communicating with national, international, and state level officials.
- Engaging with various stakeholders at the national, international, and state levels to disseminate information and build knowledge/awareness about solid waste management.
- Organizing national and state level meetings and workshops and training programmes to improve SWM policies and practices.
- Frequent field visits to states and cities for handholding and implementation support based on the research outcomes.
SKILLS
- Strong relationship building skills.
- Excellent programme and team management skills.
- Strong research aptitude.
- Strong understanding of institutional arrangement at the local government, state authorities, etc., especially in the sanitation landscape.
- Good interpersonal skills and experience in working effectively in a multi-cultural environment, with sensitivity to diverse opinions.
- Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders, including government officials, urban local bodies (ULBs), NGOs, and communities.
- Understanding of other organizations, groups, and individuals in the waste and sanitation sector, including government policies/reforms.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to communicate in both English and Hindi.
- Must be willing to travel frequently to monitor and support implementation work.
- Ability to perform and deliver under tight deadlines.
QUALIFICATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Candidates with a post-graduate degree in planning, engineering, waste management, sanitation, or an environment-related field with at least 3-5 years of work experience. Candidates should have experience in research, advocacy, and training. The candidate should be able to work in a tight-knit and dynamic team that works on a wide range of issues related to urban waste management. S/he should have strong networking and liaisoning skills, willingness to travel, and fluency in both written and spoken English/Hindi. Women candidates are encouraged to apply.
